There has been some confusion regarding what licensing models for Domino that are available after HCL took over from IBM. Here they are!
Before we start, here’s an explanation for some of the products:
- HCL Client Application Access: A thin Notes client that makes it possible to run it your web browser
- Verse on-Premises: The new Domino webmail (which will replace iNotes completely from V12)
- HCL Traveler: The server that Verse (the mobile email and calendaring client) connects to
- HCL Domino AppdDev Pack: The application development pack that makes it easy to develop Domino based solutions with node.js
- InstallShield Tuner for Notes: A program that makes it easy for you to set up where and how Notes should be installed. You can also set settings for the Notes client
- HCL mail Add-in: A plugin for Outlook so that you can use your Domino mail and calendar in Outlook via your Traveler server (used to be called IMSMO)
- SwiftFile for HCL Notes: An add-on for HCL Notes that makes it easier to sort, archive and work with email
- HCL Nomad: The mobile client which enables you to rund Notes applications on your cellphone or tablet

☆ = If I’m not mistaken, I think these are the ones you need if you want Domino Volt. That’s because you need to convert into one of the following two licenses to be able to purchase Volt licenses:
- Complete Collaboration Bundle (D1VC7LL, D1VCLLL and E0NXRLL)
- Bundle Mail and Social Collaboration (#TN100231M01)
Not sure if this makes it all much easier to understand, but at least we know what you get with each one of them. As for prices, that is between you and your business partner.
That is very useful thanks. It was quite concerning when Leap was positioned as a solution to the “charge per app” model. Leap is very different in terms of cost and functionality from what ISVs have traditionally found useful in Domino.
Is Nomad part of HCL Domino Utility Express 11.0 ?
It feels as though it is a “per head” type thing but it could be quite useful to ISVs too.
Thanks, Sean
Muy pleasure. And yes, according to HCL Nomad is part of Domino Utility Express 11.0
Where is ISV’s XWORK? Hey HCL, we do web development on Domino here…
Anyway, I know that Richard Moy from Phora Group is helping building a use case for XWork, but still disappointed.
Dear All, we use Lotus Notes R9 Domino Server in my company. We have a discussion on the updating of the software to HCL Notes 11. Questions are:
Is the HCL Nomad and Verse usable for R9 without new licens?
There is no EOS date for R9 on the HCL website. Do we get any support for R9 (FP) in the future?
First of all: Upgrade. There are so many updates that makes the Domino platform even more open, secure and usable, that there’s no reason for still running V9. Remember that Domino, and Notes, are backwards compatible. In addition, the Domino V11 server has a lot of self healing properties that 9 doesn’t have, and the upgrade and maintenance needs are even lower than before. There is therefor a big ROI in V11. HCL Nomad supports V9. You can just download Nomad and connect to the Domino server (https://help.hcltechsw.com/nomad/1.0/hcln_requirements.html). Verse 2.0 supports 9.01 as long as you install FP 10. There’s no need for a new license for running Nomad and Verse (but I’m hoping you’re not running V9 unlicensed right now). And EOS for 9 hasn’t been announced by HCL yet.
Hello, When HCL Sametime is part of one of the license models above (Like this one ‘HCL Notes Domino Complete Collaboration 11.0’), does that mean you can use the Premium version?
No, you can only use the chat bit inside Notes
I have a old Notes V5 server from from my old business that is no more, I only use it for a couple email accounts now. What options are there to upgrade the email client, so it can display html emails correctly?
As long as you have a license for your mail users, you can contact your HCL business partner and get them to upgrade.
Getting 404 errors when I click the links – could you advise please?
Best advice I have is to get in touch with your Domino business partner and get an offer.
