What’s New in the HCL Community #5

Posted on January 17, 2020 by elfworld

We are starting

HLC Connections running in Microsoft Teams? This, and other news from the thriving HCL community is brought to you by Hogne, and a lot of Pepsi Max!

Just before Xmas, HCL launched V11 of Notes, Domino and Sametime. In the weeks that followed, there has been lots of activity, and I will give you links to a lot of it here. You’re welcome.

The fine people at Team Studios have written a great blog posting on what approach you should use when your organisation say they want to move away from Domino. It’s a very well written blog posting, which I think is mandatory reading for anyone who contemplate moving away from their current application platform, no matter if it’s Domino or not. Have the powers that be really considered the complexity and how deeply integrated the apps are in the organisation? Go read the blog posting here!

With Domino V11, you get a new query language which makes it much faster and easier for you to fetch data from Domino. It’s called DQL (Domino Query Language) and HCL is hosting a webinar about it on January 30th. I urge you to sign up for it here! As a developer on Domino, you should not be left behind on the platform when the train leaves the station.

And if you would like some more input about DQL before signing up, my friends a C3UG have published no less than three Youtube videos that gives you a lot of information. You can see them here.

If you’re still wondering about V11 of Domino and have any questions about the release, Maarga did a webinar last Monday about this, and you can watch a recording of it here.

If you are doing Xpages development, Patrick Kwinten posted a great modernisation tip the other day. Check it out.

And speaking of Xpages, Michael Smith has started a great a series on how to build a flexible view controller for Xpages.

The German usergroup, DNUG, had their Connections day recently. HCL continues their brisk pace of pushing out updates and releases, and some really exciting news were revealed. Among them was the fact that you later this year will be able to use Connection communities inside Microsoft Teams! Yes, you read that right. There’s no reason to pick one or the other. Use the best of both worlds! Christoph Stoettner tells you all about it in his blog post summary from the event.

The Reply with Internet Style History choice is still a part of the Reply buttons inside Notes V11. I explain why in this blog posting.

I’ll finish up with a list of useful links from HCL:

  • There’s already a fix list for V11 of Notes/Domino
  • There’s a problem with Traveler V11 and Android syncing to the calendar
  • Documentation for HCL’s software portfolio
  • Support community where you post your questions and problems to HCL
  • Have an idea that you want to submit to HCL? Go here!
  • How to register in HCL’s software portals

Until next time!
